Japan's gold reserves rose to $124.1 billion in August from $109.5 billion in July, the highest since May. The August value is up from $93.3 billion a year earlier but remains below the all-time high of $142.0 billion set in February, and follows a decline from May's $123.6 billion to near $109.5 billion in June and July, according to the International Monetary Fund.
