Portugal's real GDP growth accelerated to 2.50% in the second quarter of 2026, from 2.36% in the previous quarter. The year-on-year expansion was the strongest since the fourth quarter of 2024 and compared with 1.73% a year earlier. The reading stayed well below the all-time high of 16.53% from the second quarter of 2021 and above the all-time low of -17.57% from the second quarter of 2020, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Portugal's current account surplus for services rose to $9.63 billion in the second quarter of 2026, from $7.57 billion in the previous quarter. The value is the highest since the third quarter of 2025, when it reached a record $13.26 billion, and is above the $9.26 billion reported a year earlier, according to the International Monetary Fund.
